Emotional Well-being
From the moment the baby is born they will be developing their ability to self-regulate, to learn how they feel and how others respond to them. There is a desire to reach out to their main carer. Growth and development depends upon interaction with another human being. Thus, our emotional well-being is crucial to our ability to learn. Emotional development incorporates our physical, social, communicative and sensory well-being. We can communicate how our emotions and feelings through our actions and behaviours.
Young children, through their senses, can become intense learners. They can be on the go, testing out their theories – 'How does this work?', 'What will happen if I do this?' As children think, they will have a desire to communicate to others through their bodies, vocalisations, words and sentences. However, children also learn through quiet and curious exploration. There is a need for the child to have time to watch, stare, use their senses and enjoy the 'here and now'.
